A good many of my sick pupils were in again today. Came home this evening to find Dwight worse. Mr. & Mrs. McMurtry were here this evening.
I have read “The Cricket On The Hearth” this evening, by Charles Dickens, and enjoyed it very much, only was too short.
[Editor’s note: “The Cricket on the Hearth” was a short story Charles Dickens wrote in 1845, two years after “A Christmas Carol”. Although it does not specifically mention Christmas, it does take place in a wintertime home and is often packaged with some of his other short books as The Christmas Stories. I had never heard of it so I just picked it up and enjoyed the delightful story.
You can read it here. Or if you have a Kindle, you can download it free here.
